Butternut or "white walnut," as it's called in Appalachia, is an absolute joy to carve. Its smooth buttery texture makes a wonderful chair seat with its soft caramel color. Butternut is highly endangered and is not a material we attempt to harvest or seek out. But occasionally, when harvested on clear-cutting or commercial logging operations, we do our best to divert the material to true crafts-people to be used in furniture.  
These Seat blanks are all 3pc glue ups from the same board and thickenessed to 1-7/8" thick. The end grain is sealed with anchor-seal and they are ready to shape and carve.
