The curved-back armchair designed by Christopher Schwarz is a great introduction to building stick chairs. Using strutted legs with no stretchers and larger diameter sticks makes the building process very straightforward. You can find the plans in Chris's book The Stick Chair Book. He also recently wrote an article in Fine Woodworking issue #311 page 56.
These materials kits are American Elm.
 
Your seat blank will be a 3pc glue up and thicknessed ready to carve and all your other parts will be selected for grain and in the rough. All the material is kiln-dried and ready to start building your chair.
