Butternut or White Walnut as it is sometimes called is just that a light colored walnut texture being in the same family as black walnut but only half as hard. Butternut is very soft and makes a wonderful carving material, holding detail very well. The tree species is ravaged by a canker disease and is in extreme decline.

Shipping is not charged on checkout but is invoiced separately after your order is packed and labeled. Shipping costs can be as much as $1.50 per pound of material, depending on where it's going. Most pine and medium soft woods average 3lbs per board foot. If your order is over 50 board feet, we will reach out to discuss shipping freight on a pallet to your door. When ordering, the quantity is by the Board Foot. A bdft is 144 cubic inches, so to calculate, you would take the width x length x thickness divided by 144. For example, a 4/4 x6"x8' would be 1"x6"x96"/144=4bdft
