Assembling a post & rung chair is often a somewhat uncontrolled, anxiety-producing experience. I have seen many hours of work carefully shaping parts ruined by an assembly process that is haphazard and that does not provide the careful control needed to consistently assemble a chair successfully. This assembly jig, which I have used for many years, is my solution to a successful assembly. It gives you complete control over the assembly process, and used in conjunction with hide glue (which has a long open time), allows you to work slowly and deliberately.

This 23 page booklet shows you how to customize the jig to any chair, walks you through an entire chair assembly process, and includes all dimensions. The jig can be built in half a day using just plywood, glue, screws, and a little bit of solid wood.

The Alexander Brothers built me a beautiful bathroom vanity using reclaimed wood I brought them. They hand turned the knobs and took care with book matching the wood where possible. I've also bought lumber from them for building kitchen cabinet fronts for a fair price. Shea is always friendly, helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend checking with them for nice wood and furniture projects!

Full disclosure, I worked with Drew and Shea, but I have been a fan of this family business since it went full-time. I bought my wife a beautiful green leather purse, and she carries it daily. We have a cutting board that we love, and I hope to someday be able to have Shea build me my dream bookcase/entertainment center. These guys inspire me to find ways to create beautiful things and to make the world better any way I can.

We are one of the lucky ones to just be a hop and skip down the road from the Alexander Brothers when we need them, but even if we weren't close we'd choose them again and again. We have had our fair share of lumber, woodworking and other craftsman's needs over the last 10 years and we were lucky to have such a qualified shop right down the road. Their commitment to their craft, their willingness to lend a hand or even share their knowledge never ceases to amaze me. I can't recommend them more. Sharing a photo of one of the doors we've had made by them as just an example of their beautiful work.
